What do you all think about online classes versus in class lectures. I used to be open to the idea of online courses but now I'm learning that maybe an in class lecture works best for certain courses. I can find that online courses can be a little harder because you a have to dicipline yourself to stay on it. Life gets in the way and sometimes you don't necessarily have the time that you would like to allot to school. It's common that you will have moments where you just get too consumed with life that you forget about a deadline or an assignment. Sometimes I find this to be me. If I am in a classroom you are constantly reminded of these dates and you are interactive with discussion about it. Online if you ever have a question you almost have to hope that the professor is online at the same time to answer you right away. Share your thoughts about this. Is it hard for you to keep yp? Are you slightly overwhelmed due to work load and life?
Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of online learning, but I think that the best environment is really just blended learning. Having students in learning situations that are online and physical can help the students as it provides them with the set time that they will be face-to-face with a teacher, and provides them the pacing with an online class. I do believe that certain disciplines can work better online than others, for example, a Spanish class does not work well online, where as a history course may.
The biggest problem that I have with online learning is the completion of group assignments. I think that group assignments are difficult online because the members of the group do not have a set time that they meet with each other to work face-to-face.
Hey Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteI believe those with a full time physical schedule will always chose and benefit from an online class rather than an in class simply because of the time. I know with my tight day to day schedule there is noway I can fit an actual class time while trying to maintain being a husband and a father. But if I wasn't in a situation of dealing with a family I will definitely rather have an in class because I get to interact more with my classmates and professors. I would personally have a face to face meeting with my professor when I have problems a day be face to face with my classmates during group projects. It just makes life a lot easier.
You both make great points. I do agree that a blended learning experience is the best way to go. If I were teaching I think going to a physicall class would be better for me but because of the way my life runs with kids my job and school online is the only option. I do agree withat face to face interaction especially with group work that way you can see who is doing what and not just assume or wait for them to respond to an email. Great thoughts classates
