Online vs in class

What do you all think about online classes versus in class lectures. I used to be open to the idea of online courses but now I'm learning that maybe an in class lecture works best for certain courses. I can find that online courses can be a little harder because you a have to dicipline yourself to stay on it. Life gets in the way and sometimes you don't necessarily  have the time that you would like to allot to school. It's common that you will have moments where you just get too consumed with life that you forget about a deadline or an assignment. Sometimes I find this to be me. If I am in a classroom you are constantly reminded of these dates and you are interactive with discussion about it. Online if you ever have a question you almost have to hope that the professor is online at the same time to answer you right away. Share your thoughts about this. Is it hard for you to keep yp? Are you slightly overwhelmed due to work load and life?

Teacher Eating Tecnhology

I am just sitting back and thinking a lot about our past, present and future. I have been particularly focused on the advancement in Technology. Seeing as though  I am used to the more traditional learning I fear that soon the role of a teacher will be taken over by the secret society of technology. There are many movies and storied that suggest that our world will be taken over by computers and sadly it seems like its coming true. With more and more gidgets and gadgets the classroom is becoming more and more obsolete. Out with chalkboards in with Promethean boards. Out with Hardback books in with chrome books. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the technology that has been given however I do try to keep my basic skills in motion. For example my daughter and son are only allowed to read hardcover books simply because I want them to understand the true meaning of reading. Curling up with a book and not a nook seems relaxing and less distracting.
Technology is more advanced than our brains are. with computers nad internet information is able to be accessed at the drop of a dime and there is no need really for a teacher to teach when you can Google virtually anything. Does this scare anyone else?
                                                      Tell me how you feel?
Will our children be taught by robots? What will be the role of humans in our society? Does it scare you that the world has taken such a digital shift?

Text, chat, learn

What do you feel about using social media in the classroom? What are some tools you use that seem to benefit your education?

Some people believe that social media is a distraction to learning and life. Some people use social media to interact with people. Others use social networks and media for entertainment. Videos, images, interactive technologies are available all across the board so why not use it to educate.
Tools like  Facebook, twitter and youtube help enhance information literacy and comprehension. Current events are often casted on social media. Students are able to research information online. Students are able to connect from multiple devices and access the information. Videos, pictures and games are used to enhance comprehension. For example for at the  elementary school level fifth graders can research a topic, and present the information provided. Students can watch video lectures , and examples of the material discussed so they can understand the information. for example if doing a unit on the civil war. Students can research pictures, and I video examples that demonstrate or represent the unit.
Teachers and students can use social media in order to communicate. Teachers can create a page where students and their parents can view upcoming events and assignments. Students can email or message their teachers and peers. This is helpful for collaboration. For example if students are working on a group assignment they can chat and interact with their group members through social networks like Facebook. These are just some ideas of  how social media can help in the classroom.

What are some examples of how you use the Internet and social media in your school?

Imagery

Pictures are worth a thousand words quoted many times before . What does imagery have to do with education? Everything is the answer. Especially when it comes to the way society has made a turn to the digital era.  Now instead of identifying words with letters and using pens and papers have gone out the window. More students these days rely on images in order to learn. Society has moved to computers, videos, Internet and other sources . The material provided on these tools use text, photos, video and graphics to depict the content of the subject provided. These tools kept learning intriguing. Most children enjoy playing video games , using their tablets and surf the Internet. Using technology in the classroom will spark the interstate of the students and students can enhance their media and information literacy by using technology.

Blogger strikes again! I have used this blog site for many types of assignments before and also for personal use. I enjoy using this site, it is very easy to use and the layout and set up is very easy to access and use.

In undergrad we were to use blogger t write reflections and respond to current events. At times we were asked to write creative things like what is on our mind. Here we got to see what our peers are thinking and how they go about expressing themselves.

I believe blogs are excellent tools for education. These type of tools help enhance information and computer literacy. Students learn how t organize their thoughts into writing. They can find ways to creatively speak about a topic. I would most defintly use blogs in my classroom. I hope to one day become a history teacher and I would use blogs as a online journal.
